Happy 4.25.2012
I’m a happy boy. I grew up in a happy home. I’m surrounded by happy friends. I’ve had a happy life. And so I make happy music.
But happy is not synonymous with peaceful. G.K. Chesterton once observed, “The fairy tales never said that the prince and princess lived peacefully ever afterwards… They lived happily, although it is very likely that from time to time they threw the furniture at each other.”
I believe happy music is misrepresented when it is void of this tension. The perpetual crisis of relationships and life must be given a spotlight in order that they are shown to be overcome by hope and hard work. Those are happy songs. The Beatles “We Can Work It Out” was a song just Iike that. I want to write these songs.
